BRADENTON, FL — After neither side scored until the 11th inning, the Bradenton Marauders walked off the Daytona Tortugas 4-3 in 12 innings on Wednesday morning in front of 1,795 fans at LECOM Park.
In the 12th, Alexander Johnson (0-1) retired the first two batters in order before Juan Jerez and Jack Herman walked to load the bases for Javier Rivas. Rivas belted a bases clearing double down the left field line to win the ballgame 4-3 and snap the Marauders seven-game losing skid.
The game was forced into extra-innings after neither side scored a run in the first nine frames. Hung-Leng Chang tossed four scoreless innings, followed by Ben Heller who tossed the next two frames. Peyton Stumbo struck out the side in seventh before Landon Tomkins retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth. At one point, the Marauders bullpen had retired 17 batters in a row until Dominic Petelli led off the 11th inning with an RBI double to score Yerlin Confidan and give the Tortugas a 1-0 lead.
With the Marauders trailing 1-0, Jesus Castillo led off the bottom of the 11th with a sacrifice bunt to move P.J. Hilson to third base with one out. The next batter, Jeral Toledo, hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Hilson and tie the game at one.
The Tortugas answered with a pair of runs on a go-ahead two-run home run by Ricardo Cabrera . Yoldin De La Paz (1-0) ended up stranding two men on base in the 12th to keep the deficit at 3-1 before the Marauders won the game in the bottom half of the frame.
De La Paz threw two scoreless innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 6.2 frames before allowing the home run in the 12th.
The Marauders and Tortugas will continue their six-game series on Thursday night at LECOM Park.
