River Cats’ 2021 team MVP returns to Giants on MiLB deal

The San Francisco Giants re-signed the 2021 Triple-A West hits leader Jason Krizan this past week. Krizan, who won both team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, hit .316 last season, leading the River Cats with 26 doubles, 67 runs, 73 RBIs, 38 multi-hit games, and 18 multi-RBI games.

The San Francisco Giants re-signed the 2021 Triple-A West hits leader Jason Krizan this past week.

Krizan, who won both team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, hit .316 last season, leading the River Cats with 26 doubles, 67 runs, 73 RBIs, 38 multi-hit games, and 18 multi-RBI games. He was also second on the team with a career-high 16 home runs, trailing only Arismendy Alcántara’s 17.

The 32-year-old had plenty of highlights from 2021, including catching the final out of the first nine-inning no-hitter in River Cats history.

He was also in possession of a unique stat line on Aug. 13, as a 1-for-4 day had him hitting .318 on the season, .318 against lefties, .318 against righties, .318 at home, and .318 on the road.

The versatile Krizan started 34 games at first base, 32 at second base, 21 at third base, eight in left field, one in right field, and even had two trips to the mound, tossing 1.1 innings with just one hit allowed.

Krizan has yet to reach the majors, hitting .276 with 503 runs, 232 doubles, 82 home runs, 534 RBIs, and 475 walks in 1,118 MiLB games.

Prior to Sacramento, Krizan was a 2019 MiLB.com Organization All-Star with the Mets, 2016 Mid-Season All-Star with Erie (Detroit), and 2013 Gold Glove winner with Lakeland (Detroit). He was originally drafted in the eighth round by the Detroit Tigers in 2011 out of Dallas Baptist University.
