River Cats blanked despite strong pitching performance

RENO, NV - The Sacramento River Cats (47-73) were held scoreless for the third time this month, falling to the Reno Aces (62-58) by the final score of 5-0.

Despite allowing two early runs, River Cats starter Tyler Herb tied a season-high with six innings pitched and set a new season-high with nine strikeouts. Reno, however, would also get to the bullpen late and put on three more runs to run away with the ballgame.
The River Cats were shutout for the ninth time this season with Monday night's 5-0 defeat. Their best opportunity to score came in the seventh inning when rehabbing Brandon Belt crushed a leadoff double to center field, but the next three batters were retired in order to end the threat.
The River Cats are back in action tomorrow for game two of this quick three-game set against the Aces. Right-hander Chris Stratton (2-0, 3.50) makes his fourth start for Sacramento while Reno will send fellow righty Matt Koch (1-3, 5.75) to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
• Kelby Tomlinson extended his hitting streak to 14 games after going 2-for-2. He trails just Austin Slater by three games for the longest hitting streak this season for Sacramento.
• Herb's nine strikeouts are a new season-high and his best since striking out six batters on April 13 against Tacoma.
