River Cats come up dry in 4-1 loss to Rainiers

Tacoma, WA - The Sacramento River Cats (40-59) were unable to give starter Andrew Suárez the run support he needed tonight, falling 4-1 to the Tacoma Rainiers (50-50) Saturday night.

Suarez held the Rainiers in check over his six innings despite loading the bases twice, holding them to three runs (two earned) and stranding seven men on base. The left-hander set a season-high in pitches thrown tonight by tossing 107 (66 strikes) while walking three and striking out four. All seven of Suarez's surrendered hits were singles tonight and he allowed a run in the first inning for the first time this season.
The River Cats offense wasn't able to provide much support tonight, managing just one run coming off a wild pitch by Tacoma starter Christian Bergman. Bregman stifled Sacramento's offense as they managed just five hits over his seven frames. Second baseman Ali Castillo collected two of the team's six hits and Ryder Jones registered the only extra base hit, a double in the fourth.
Sacramento will send left-hander Matt Gage (0-3, 6.38) to the hill tomorrow for game three of the series. Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (2-4, 3.82) will get the start for Tacoma. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live on the air on ESPN 1320 and online at rivercats.com.
