ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - It was a tough two-game set at home against the Bristol State Liners, who came into the series a league-worst 5-18, but it did not seem to matter as Bristol blew out Elizabethton 10-3 on Tuesday and 16-7 on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, things got tough pretty quick. Bristol scored seven runs in the first five innings to take a commanding 7-0 lead that the State Liners would never relinquish. The River Riders did get two in the sixth, which were quickly traded back with two in the seventh before the two teams traded a run in the last two innings, all resulting in a 10-3 Elizabethton loss.

On Wednesday night, Trevor Callahan had his best outing of the year, throwing four shutout innings for the Blue and Yellow. Avery Owusu-Asiedu continued to stay hot as he pounded a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall in the fourth to give the River Riders the early lead.

Brandon Nigh then hit a two-run single to give Bristol the lead in the fifth, but Elizabethton tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a fielder’s choice to plate a run. However, Bristol scored three in the sixth, five in the seventh and six in the eighth to take a commanding 16-2 lead, and although Elizabethton got five in the bottom of the eighth, the River Riders would ultimately fall, 16-7.

Elizabethton is back on the road Thursday against the Greeneville Flyboys with first pitch set for 7 p.m. You can listen to the game live at https://www.appyleague.com/elizabethton/audio
