Walk-Off Home Run and Dominant Pitching Lead to Two Victories for Express

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (25-18) swept the Reno Aces (20-24) in both halves of the doubleheader on Saturday at Dell Diamond. Round Rock took Game 1 by a score of 3-2 thanks to a walk-off home run for 3B Jantzen Witte. The E-Train came back and took Game 2 by a final of 4-1. The Express have won four consecutive games and they are 12-4 in their last 16.

Along the Train Tracks – Game 1:

  • Round Rock reliever LHP Grant Wolfram (1-1, 6.59) earned the victory after 1.0 shutout inning of work where he allowed one hit. Reno reliever LHP Andrew Saalfrank (3-1, 2.60) was credited with the loss after giving up one run in a third of an inning.
  • Reno opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a double into the right center field gap by 3B Andres Chaparro that scored DH Adrian Del Castillo and LF Kyle Garlick to make it 2-0.
  • A pair of bases loaded walks for Round Rock in the bottom of the sixth by 1B Blaine Crim and PH Sandro Fabian tied the game at two.
  • On the first pitch of the inning, Express 3B Jantzen Witte launched a walk-off homer off the shed in centerfield in the bottom of the seventh to give his team a 3-2 victory in the front end of the twin bill.

Along the Train Tracks – Game 2:

  • Round Rock starter RHP Owen White (1-2, 5.02) took home the win after 5.0 innings of one-run baseball, allowing one hit and three walks with two strikeouts. Reno starter LHP Konnor Pilkington (1-3, 8.17) earned the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Express reliever RHP Daniel Robert followed White, pitching 2.0 perfect innings with two strikeouts to record his second save of the season.
  • Round Rock took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning thanks to back-to-back home runs by 3B Jantzen Witte and RF Sandro Fabian. Witte belted a three-run bomb while Fabian hit a solo shot.
  • Reno responded in the top of the third when CF Albert Almora Jr. hit into a double play and 2B Kolten Wong scored from third base to make it a 4-1 game. The Reno offense collected just one hit the whole night and the 4-1 score stood final.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Express starter in Game 1, RHP Gerson Garabito, pitched 6.0 innings and gave up two runs with only one earned run on two hits with two walks and seven punchouts while earning a no-decision.
  • E-Train 3B Jantzen Witte smacked a walk-off solo home run in Game 1 which was the first since Sandro Fabian hit a walk-off homer on August 22, 2023 against Salt Lake.
  • Witte homered in his first at-bat of Game 2 which gave him home runs in consecutive at-bats. This marked the first time he recorded multiple home runs in the same day since April 25, 2014 when Witte was playing for the Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Greenville Drive.
  • The Express hit back-to-back home runs for the first time since July 30, 2023.
