Columbia (15-21, 49-54) faltered against Robles (8-6), who finished the game with seven innings pitched, while allowing just one run on four hits.
West Virginia (16-20, 53-49) jumped out to a quick start, scoring in each of the first four innings.
The offense was not done there though. They would add a run in each of the next three innings against the starter, Jake Simon (0-5). Cruz smashed a solo shot in the second and Hernandez matched that in the third to give West Virginia a 5-1 lead going into the fourth.
This marked the second consecutive day that West Virginia has scored at least one run in each of the first three innings.
The Fireflies' lone run came in the top of the first. Edgardo Fermin doubled to lead off the inning and was knocked in by a Scott Manea sacrifice fly.
For a second consecutive day, West Virginia only needed one arm from the bullpen.
