MIDLAND - Backed by seven extra-base hits, Joey Estes delivered seven sharp innings Friday night as Midland managed an 8-3 win over Corpus Christi for a three-games-to-none lead in the series.
With the RockHounds earning a fifth consecutive triumph, the Hooks have lost five in a row, which matches their longest drought of the year.
Corpus Christi notched just two hits over the first four innings, but received a spark in the fifth. Colin Barber smoked a single into center and, with two outs, Jordan Brewer launched a 446-foot home run over the 18-foot fence in left for his second dinger in six games.
Midland though would capitalize on a two-out error in the bottom half by scoring three unearned runs to make it a 6-2 contest.
The Hooks final push came in the seventh as Barber whipped a lead-off double into left. One out later, Brewer notched a base hit that set up J.C. Correa's run-scoring groundout.
Brewer, who has hit safely in 11 of 15 games on the year, will enter Saturday with six hits in his last 11 at-bats.
Blair Henley recorded seven of nine outs via strikeouts over his three relief innings for CC.
