Bulls right-hander pitcher Elvin Rodriguez was named the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 17-24 on Monday after his stellar outing last week in Syracuse. Rodriguez is the first Durham player to receive a weekly honor since the 2021 campaign.
Rodriguez earned the win on Friday, April 21 at Syracuse after firing seven shutout innings, yielding two hits and two walks while striking out a season-high eight batters. In four starts this season for the Bulls he owns a 2-1 record and 1.57 ERA (23.0 IP), adding 22 strikeouts compared to eight walks.
The 25-year-old enters play today pacing the International League in earned-run average, batting average against (.108) and WHIP (0.70), in addition to ranking tied for sixth in the circuit in strikeouts. The right-hander was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as a minor league free agent on January 19, 2023.
Rodriguez is the first Bulls player to receive a league weekly honor since right-hander Tobias Myers earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the period between September 21-26, 2021.
Durham begins a six-game homestand versus the first-place Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, on Tuesday, April 25. First pitch of the series opener is set for 11:05am.
