KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 3, 2017) - Antonio Rodriguez tripled twice and drove in three runs, and the Intimidators defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 7-4 on Wednesday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (13-12) picked up a win for the second night in a row over the GreenJackets to take the three-game set and move over .500 for the second time this season.
Rodriguez finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He becomes the first Intimidator with two triples in a game since John Ziznewski on September 2, 2015, versus Hagerstown.
On the mound, Jimmy Lambert (4-0, 2.65 ERA) pitched seven strong innings allowing four earned runs on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts to pick up the win. Lambert has won four starts in a row. Mike Morrison pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Intimidators struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Joel Booker reached on a throwing error by the second baseman and scored when Jameson Fisher brought him home on a groundout to second to give Kannapolis a 1-0 lead.
After the Jackets answered with one in the top of the second to tie the score 1-1, Kannapolis scored three to take the lead again in the bottom of the second inning. Seby Zavala walked to lead off the frame and scored on a groundball triple to right field by Rodriguez to make it 2-1. Rodriguez then came home on an infield single by Joel Booker making the score 3-1, and moments later Booker scored on a throwing error by the left fielder after a Mitch Roman single to take a 4-1 lead.
The Intimidators added two more in the bottom of the third inning to make it 6-1 when Rodriguez recorded his second triple of the night plating Zach Remillard and Zavala.
After three runs in the sixth by Augusta made the score 6-4 Kannapolis, a two-out single by Micker Adolfo scored Max Dutto to open a three-run lead again, 7-4. Adolfo paced the I's offense with three hits, finishing 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Kannapolis concludes its three-game series against Augusta on Thursday as RHP Yosmer Solorzano (1-2, 3.68 ERA) takes the mound against the GreenJackets' RHP Matt Solter (2-0, 3.48 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Thursday is "Sing for the Fences" at the ballpark, featuring our second annual sing-along competition.
