ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 28, 2017) - The Fort Myers Miracle (39-22) dropped the opening game of a three-game series to the St. Lucie Mets (27-37) 3-2. Brent Rooker homered in the loss, his 11th in the FSL and 18th professional bomb of the season.
Rooker's two-run shot in the top of the first inning came off starter RHP Yeizo Campos (W, 1-1). The righty did not allow another run through his six innings of work. The Fort Myers offense were held to four hits the rest of the way.
LHP Lachlan Wells returned to the FSL off the disabled list for the first time since late June and set down the first seven batters he faced. In the fourth, Nick Sergakis singled down the third base line, and with two outs Wuilmer Beccera looped a ball to shallow center that dropped in front of Jaylin Davis to score St. Lucie's first run.
In the fifth, Tim Tebow led off the frame with a double, and JC Rodriguez drew a two-out walk. Jacob Zanon then doubled over Nelson Molina's head in right field to score both runners, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.
RHP Stephen Nogosek (H, 2) handled innings seven and eight, while RHP Alex Palsha (Sv, 5) closed the door in the ninth.
The Miracle look to even the series with RHP Sean Poppen dealing against RHP Harol Gonzalez. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM ET.
