CLEARWATER, FL – Ricardo Rosario extended his hit streak to seven games with a walkoff home run as the Clearwater Threshers (52-25, 8-4) took down the Palm Beach Cardinals (40-37, 3-9) in a 4-1 victory on Thursday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look for their second straight win against the Cardinals on Friday.
A pitcher’s duel kept the game scoreless until the sixth, which began with a leadoff walk to Cade Fergus. He stole second off Palm Beach starter Cade Winquest before Rosario moved him to third on a single. Bryan Rincon hit a ground ball to first baseman Adanson Cruz, who couldn’t get a throw home in time to stop Fergus from scoring the game’s first run.
An error with two outs in the seventh tied the game at one, but Jordan Viars made a clutch throw home to stop the go-ahead run from scoring. The game was tied at one until the ninth, when Cole Moore led off the inning with a double off Cardinals reliever Wilmer Ortega. He was replaced by Chad Castillo as a pinch runner on second. After two consecutive outs, William Bergolla was intentionally walked before Rosario hit a three-run home run to give the Threshers a walkoff 4-1 victory.
Samuel Aldegheri tossed 5.0 shutout innings with two hits and one walk allowed along with six strikeouts in a no-decision. Jean Cabrera (4-4) took the win in 4.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts.
