PEARL, MS - Atlanta Braves catcher Tyler Flowers has been added to the Mississippi Braves roster to continue his rehab assignment. Flowers was placed on the disabled list March 30 after exiting a game the day before with oblique discomfort. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, recording two hits and an RBI. Flowers went 2-for-7 in two rehab games for the Stripers.

Flowers is the second Atlanta Braves player to rehab for the M-Braves in 2018, joining pitcher Luiz Gohara. The lefty tossed 3.1 innings on April 17 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Trustmark Park.

Flowers completed his 12th professional season in 2017, including his ninth at the Major League level. Flowers, 32, hit .281 with 12 homers and 49 RBIs in 2017. He posted career-highs in on-base percentage (.378), slugging percentage (.445), runs scored (41) and average.

Spanning his 12 professional seasons, Flowers has played for two organizations, the Atlanta Braves, and Chicago White Sox. He returned to the Atlanta organization before the 2016 season, signing a two-year contract through the 2017 season with the Braves on December 17, 2015. The Braves originally selected him out of Chipola Junior College in the 33rd round of the 2005 draft. He joined the White Sox on December 4, 2008, in a six-player trade.

According to MLB's StatCast, over the last two seasons, has got a called strike on an MLB-most 7.20% pitches out of the strike zone. The next closest qualifying catcher (Martin Maldonado) has a 6.70% in that same time span.

In two-plus seasons since joining Atlanta, he's hit .276 with an .801 OPS. In 431 games over seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox, he batted .223 with a .665 OPS.

Flowers has a history in the Southern League having played in 77 games for the Birmingham Barons during the 2009 season. He was named to the Southern League Mid and Postseason All-Star squads after batting .302 with 18 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 43 RBI.
