The 2023 MLB Draft’s No. 4 overall pick -- Wyatt Langford -- has yet to find a Minor League level that has consistently proven to challenge him. Langford powered Double-A Frisco with the first multihomer game of his professional career Wednesday, leading to a 10-1 win at HODGETOWN. A night
The 2023 MLB Draft’s No. 4 overall pick --
Langford powered Double-A Frisco with the first multihomer game of his professional career Wednesday, leading to a 10-1 win at HODGETOWN.
A night after Langford drilled his first RoughRiders roundtripper, MLB’s No. 13 overall prospect upped the ante, needing just eight games in the Texas League -- and 35 in total as a pro -- to round the bags twice in a night.
Langford's first homer of the night was a two-run opposite-field shot off right-handed D-backs prospect Gunnar Groen in the third. Langford not only saw the ball well in that at-bat, but also when he reached base via six-pitch walks in the fourth and sixth innings.
Langford worked the count to a seventh pitch in the top of the eighth before swatting a solo homer to left. Homering off of left-handed D-backs prospect Dillon Larsen, it marked Langford’s ninth home run of his Minor League career.
Having spent the spring mashing for the University of Florida, Langford has picked up right where he left off in college, slashing a gaudy .349/.468/.706 to begin his pro career. His numbers have actually improved since arriving in Frisco, slashing .385/.528/.846 despite the elevated competition. MLB’s No. 6 outfield prospect has scored 31 runs already in his career, and driven in 27 while producing more walks (28) than strikeouts (24).
Armed with a 65-grade power and a 60-grade hit tool, Langford, the Rangers' second-ranked prospect has quickly ascended the club's organizational ranks. After just three games in the Arizona Complex League, the 21-year-old landed with High-A Hickory, from which he quickly graduated.
It remains to be seen if Langford is nearing his final days of in-game competition in 2023 -- Frisco's season ends Sunday -- or whether a further call to Triple-A Round Rock or the Arizona Fall League awaits. Irrespective of the final decision, Langford has firmly put himself on the map with an impactful first foray into pro ball.
