EL PASO, Texas – The Round Rock Express (14-12 | 58-42) fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas (11-15 | 44-57) by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Southwest University Park.

Round Rock reliever LHP John King (2-2, 3.32) walked away with the loss after allowing the winning run in the ninth inning. The lefty threw 0.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits. El Paso reliever LHP Ray Kerr (5-0, 2.61) earned the win after throwing a scoreless ninth inning. He recorded two strikeouts.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • Round Rock scored first in the third inning after three straight singles from RF Elier Hernandez, 1B Blaine Crim and LF Sandro Fabian plated a run to make it 1-0.
  • El Paso did not score a run until the eighth inning. CF Jose Azocar singled and two walks, one intentional, were issued to 2B Tim Lopes and SS Eguy Rosario. A wild pitch scored Azocar from third base to tie the game at one but the inning ended with two Chihuahuas left on base.
  • In the bottom of the ninth inning, LF Ben Gamel and RF Oscar Mercado hit back-to-back singles and both ended up in scoring position after a sacrifice bunt from 3B Jantzen Witte. The first hit of the night for C Austin Nola was a walk-off single to left field and the Express dropped the game 2-1.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Round Rock starter, RHP Robert Dugger (5-7, 4.50), threw 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed five hits while walking one and striking out five. Tonight marked the second scoreless outing for the righty this season, the first coming on June 22 against Sacramento when Dugger threw 5.0 scoreless innings that included only two hits.
  • Two new faces played for the Express tonight in C Kevin Plawecki and 2B Frainyer Chavez. Plawecki went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts against his former squad while Chavez was 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Express RHP Ian Kennedy had his scoreless streak come to an end. It reached 9.0 innings before he allowed the game-tying run in the eighth inning to score for El Paso.

Next up: Round Rock and El Paso will play in game six of the series at Southwest University Park on Sunday with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT. Express RHP Daniel Robert (1-1, 4.28) will face Chihuahuas LHP Jay Groome (3-6, 3.82).
