OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Round Rock Express (34-18 | 78-48) took the series opener over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (26-26 | 76-49) with a 10-9 victory on Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Express reliever RHP Marc Church (6-0, 2.97) earned the win after tossing 2.0 innings that saw one run off on two hits, two walks and one strikeout. Dodgers reliever RHP Blake Treinen (0-1, 20.25) went home with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and one walk in 0.1 innings that saw one walk. Round Rock RHP Yerry Rodriguez earned the save after retiring the final three batters following a leadoff home run in the ninth.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • In the first inning, a three-run home run from 3B Davis Wendzel came with two outs to score RF Elier Hernandez and C Sam Huff and put the visitors up 3-0.
  • Oklahoma City put up a five spot in the home half of the first after a Round Rock error put CF Jonny Deluca on base and singles from 2B Jorbit Vivas and 3B Miguel Vargas plated one run. With batters two out, a single from SS Kolten Wong and a two-RBI double from DH David Dahl had the Dodgers in front 4-3. An RBI single from C Hunter Feduccia capped off the scoring and the home team was up 5-3.
  • Express CF Evan Carter tallied his first Triple-A RBI in the second inning after knocking Hernandez in to make it a one-run game.
  • The Dodgers added one run in the third after Wong led off with a solo home run to extend their lead to 6-4.
  • Both teams plated a run in the fourth to make it a 6-5 game. Huff knocked in Hernandez with a single for a Round Rock run before Oklahoma City answered as Deluca hit a leadoff triple and scored on a single from Vivas.
  • The E-Train took the lead back in the fifth inning after notching four runs thanks to four hits, two walks, two groundouts, one wild pitch and one stolen base to lead 9-7.
  • In the following frame, Round Rock hit double digits on the scoreboard. DH Justin Foscue led off with a walk and crossed home thanks to a two-out RBI double from 2B Dio Arias.
  • Oklahoma City again answered in the home half when a solo home run from Deluca pulled the Dodgers within striking distance at 10-8.
  • The Express went scoreless in the final three innings and gave up a leadoff home run to Vargas in the ninth, but the 10-9 score stood final after Round Rock RHP Yerry Rodriguez retired the final three batters.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Round Rock CF Evan Carter made his Triple-A debut on Tuesday night. He recorded a game-high four hits and finished the night 4-for-6 with one RBI, one run scored and one strikeout. Carter is the first E-Train batter to record a four-hit game since INF Blaine Crim tallied four on August 22 against Salt Lake.
  • A quartet of Express players tallied a two-hit night after RF Elier Hernandez, C Sam Huff, DH Justin Foscue and 2B Dio Arias all recorded multiple hits. Hernandez reached base four times after also drawing two walks and had a season-high four runs scored, something only two other E-Train batters have done this season, but the first since OF J.P. Martinez scored four runs on June 20 against Sacramento.
  • Dating back to the team’s previous road trip against Sugar Land, Round Rock has won a season-high seven straight road games and has claimed a victory in 17 of their last 18 games.

Next up: Round Rock and Oklahoma City will play in game two of the series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT with Express RHP Zak Kent (0-0, 1.76) slated to take on Dodgers LHP Robbie Erlin (4-2, 7.08).
