BUFFALO, NY - Today the Toronto Blue Jays promoted former Canisius Golden Griffins RHP Ryan Boyer to the Buffalo Bisons from the Vancouver Canadians (A+).
Boyer was signed to a Minor League contract on January 27, 2022 and has spent each of the past two season in the Blue Jays organization, including 10 total relief appearances this year. Last season, the righty appeared among three different levels in the organization, reaching the Eastern League (AA) with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for four outings.
The Bradford, PA native spent the 2021 season pitching for the Golden Griffins as a graduate student. He made five starts and nine overall appearances for Canisius, totaling 30.2 innings pitched. Boyer recorded 41 strikeouts, and his 12.03 strikeouts per nine innings ranks him second-best in program history.
Boyer becomes the second pitcher from the Golden Griffins program to be promoted to the Bisons during the Blue Jays affiliation era. He joins RHP John Axford, who made nine relief appearances for the team during the 2021 season. Axford was 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA with a pair of saves for the Herd.
Boyer has not allowed a run in each of his last nine relief appearances, the first with Dunedin followed by the next eight with Vancouver totaling 11.2 innings pitched. He last worked a scoreless inning for the Canadians against Spokane on July 2.
