Round Rock’s Ryan Hernandez Garners TCL Player of the Week Honors

University of Houston Slugger Clubbed Three Homers, Hit .474 During Red-Hot Week

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Two weeks, two awards for the Round Rock Hairy Men! The Texas Collegiate League announced this afternoon that Round Rock INF Ryan Hernandez has been named the league’s Player of the Week for July 7-13. Round Rock RHP Jacob Ashkinos was previously named the circuit’s Pitcher of the Week for June 29-July 6.

The University of Houston product lit up opposing pitchers in the TCL last week, posting a .474 batting average after collecting base hits in nine of his 19 at-bats across five games. Hernandez tallied three doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored during the torrid stretch. He hit home runs in three consecutive games from July 7-9, part of a stretch where he launched five homers in the span of six games dating back to July 2.

On the year, the Boston native is hitting an even .400 (18-45) with five doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored in 11 games. He currently ranks in the top five in the TCL in batting average, doubles, home runs, RBI and runs scored. He leads the 10-team circuit in home runs and is tied with fellow Hairy Men INF Kyle Froemke for the league-lead in doubles.

Hernandez started all 15 games for the University of Houston in 2020 as the team’s everyday first baseman. He led the Cougars with a .300 batting average, 18 hits, 13 runs scored, four doubles, five home runs and 14 RBI. Hernandez transferred to the University of Houston after spending the 2019 season at San Jacinto College. During his time with the Gators, he was named to the All-Region XIV Second Team and helped the squad win the Region XIV Championship. He was a multi-sport athlete at Dexter Southfield High School in Massachusetts, competing in baseball, football and basketball. He was named a Rawlings All-American during his time at Dexter.
