Ryan, a 30th round pick of the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft, was a position player for two years at the University of North Carolina, but the former infielder and catcher has adapted quickly to the mound. Opponents have scratched across just two earned runs in 21.1 innings against Ryan this season, which is his first full season as a pitcher. Last year, Ryan only pitched 18.2 innings in the rookie-level Arizona League after he was drafted. He made one pitching appearance in college.<o:p>
Midwest League hitters have had a hard time squaring up Ryan this season. The league is batting just .111 against Ryan as of Wednesday. Ryan is also striking out batters at a brisk pace. With 27 strikeouts so far, Ryan is averaging 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings (K/9). Ryan is 3-for-3 in save chances this year and has a 1-2 record.
Richard A. Nussbaum II, President of the Midwest League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc., officially announced the rosters for the 2017 All-Star Game on Wednesday. The 53rd MWL All-Star Classic will take place on June 20 at Dow Diamond in Midland, MI, home of the Great Lakes Loons. Ryan will represent the Eastern Division in the All-Star Game.
