Rylan's rocket helps Reds roll Royals, 4-3

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- With the game tied in the eighth, 1B Rylan Thomas launched a go-ahead, solo home run, as the Greeneville Reds captured the final game of the three-contest set over the Burlington Royals, 4-3, on Monday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
With the win, the Reds snapped a four-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 6-12. Burlington's loss snapped their season-long two-contest winning streak, as they fell to a league-worst 4-16.
Tied at three with one out in the top of the eighth, Thomas (1-3, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB, SO) fouled a 3-1 pitch off the Royals' catcher. After a few minute delay, the former UCF Golden Knight demolished the next pitch into the Burlington night. The solo blast - his second in as many days and third of the year - gave Greeneville the lead back, 4-3.
RHP Manuel Cachutt (2.0 IP, 2 H, SO) entered in the bottom of the frame and put together his best outing of the season. The 21-year-old worked around a one-out double in the eighth and a single and stolen base with two away in the ninth to seal the win and his first save of the year.
After the game was scoreless through three innings, the Reds scratched across the game's first run for the third-straight night. After a walk to Thomas and a single that caromed off the pitcher by RF Reniel Ozuna (1-3, BB, 2 SO), C Hunter Oliver (2-4, RBI) strolled to the dish. The Cleveland, Tenn. native ripped a run-scoring single to left to put Greeneville in front, 1-0.
Burlington managed to tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning. Singles by SS Jeison Guzman (3-5, R, RBI, SO) and RF Juan Carlos Negret (2-4, 2B, SO) put men at first and third with one out. C Freddy Fermin (0-3, RBI) followed with a sacrifice fly to center to even the game at one.
The Redlegs added single runs in the fifth and seventh to stretch their advantage to two.
In the fifth, DH Jose Tello (2-4, R) singled to center and stole second. With two outs, the Venezuelan native came home to score on an infield single off the bat of LF Nate Scantlin (1-4) and a throwing error. Greeneville pushed another man across two innings later, as SS Miguel Hernandez (2-4, R, HR, RBI, SO) cracked a solo home run to left. The blast - his first of the year - put the Reds up 3-1.
The Royals would tie it up in the bottom of the seventh to set up Thomas' later heroics. 1B Rhett Aplin (2-3, R, 2B, BB, SO) singled and swiped second, while 3B Brhet Bewley (1-3, BB, SO) walked. After a fielder's choice put men at first and third with two away, LF Montae Bradshaw (1-4, RBI, SO) and Guzman knocked back-to-back singles to tie it up at three apiece.
RHP Josiah Gray (5.2 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 5 SO) - who was named the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day - was stellar once again in a no-decision. The 20-year-old lasted a career-long 5.2 innings, striking out five. His fellow 2018 draftee - RHP A.J. Moore (1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, SO) - surrendered both seventh-inning runs, but earned his first professional victory.
After not yielding a home run in his first five innings as a pro, LHP Josh Dye (3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 SO) surrendered two in back-to-back innings to suffer his second defeat of the season. RHP Elvis Luciano (4.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) gave up two runs (one earned) over 4.2 innings in a no-decision for Burlington.
Greeneville heads back to East Tennessee on Tuesday, as they commute to Kingsport to open up a four-game set against the Mets. RHP Miguel Medrano (0-1, 6.92 ERA) is expected to toe the slab in the lid-lifter for the Reds, while RHP Daison Acosta (0-1, 5.40 ERA) is projected to start for the K-Mets.

Following the Kingsport series, the Reds will return home on Saturday, July 14 to open up a three-game set against the Bristol Pirates. It will be Star Wars Night at the ballpark that evening featuring special movie-themed uniforms, music, food, and on-field games. In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a special Lightsaber Giveaway courtesy of Consumer Credit Union. That night's jersey's will be auctioned off to benefit the United Way of Greene County.
