SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (18-26) fell to the Salem Red Sox (20-25) on Thursday night by a score of 4-2.
Salem took the lead in the opening inning on a fielder's choice by Ederso Lira that scored Jhostynxon Garcia. They'd strike again to start the top of the second on a solo home run by Albert Feliz to take a quick 2-0 advantage after two innings.
But the Shorebirds would get both of those runs back with a two-out rally in the third as Enrique Bradfield Jr. and Tavian Josenberger both got into scoring position for Anderson De Los Santos who drove home both with a long single down the left-field line, evening the game at two.
The Red Sox would retake the lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Jhostynxon Garcia to score Yorberto Mejicano to make it 3-2.
They'd add on in the sixth on another sacrifice fly, this time by Marvin Alcantara to plate Albert Feliz, putting Shorebirds behind by two once again at 4-2.
Despite a pair of two-out rallies in the sixth and ninth inning, Delmarva was unable to score and would fall short in game three of the series by a score of 4-2.
Nathanael Cruz (3-2) earned the win in relief for Salem with Deivy Cruz (8-3) taking the loss as the starter for the Shorebirds. Railin Perez (2) picked up the save by recording the final three outs in the ninth.
The series continues on Friday night as Zach Peek makes a Minor League rehab start for the Shorebirds against right-hander Christian Nuñez for the Red Sox with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
