LANSING, Mich. – Dereck Salom swatted his first home run of the season, Henry Bolte knocked his team-leading sixth, and the Lansing Lugnuts (18-18) held off the Lake County Captains (21-15), 5-4, on Thursday night at Jackson Field.

The Nuts have won two of the first three games in the series and five of their last six games overall.

Facing the reigning Midwest League Pitcher of the Week, Trenton Denholm, Euribiel Ángeles drilled an RBI single in the first inning; Salom opened a two-run third inning with a rocket to left; and Bolte homered, Ángeles tripled and Brayan Buelvas doubled in the fifth inning to build a 5-2 Lugnuts lead.

Mitch Myers became the first Lansing starter to pitch into the seventh inning, tossing 6 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and allowing solo tallies in the first, fourth and sixth innings, before departing with a 5-3 lead.

Dylan Hall recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning, but gave up a leadoff home run to Guy Lipscomb in the eighth, pulling the Captains within a run, and then walked Jake Fox before yielding to Yehizon Sanchez. Sanchez retired Maick Collado and Angel Zarate around a walk to escape the threat.

Lake County went back to work in the ninth: pinch-hitter Zac Fascia singled and Nate Furman reached on a fielding error by second baseman Colby Halter. Sanchez bore down, inducing a double-play ball from Alex Mooney and dispatching C.J. Kayfus on a foulout to third to end the game and notch his first save.

Right fielder Bolte led the offensive effort, finishing 3-for-4 with a single, double, homer, stolen base and two runs scored. Center fielder Buelvas added a single, double, walk and a stolen base of his own – part of a five-steal night for the Lansing offense.

Left fielder Cam Masterman finished 1-for-3 with a walk, increasing his on-base streak to 16 games.

The fourth game of the six-game series is a Grand Slam School Night featuring the Zooperstars and the first LAFCU Fireworks of the year! Gates open at 6 p.m. for a 7:05 p.m. start. For tickets and further information, visit milb.com/lansing or call (517) 485-4500.
