GREENVILLE- The Asheville Tourists snapped their four-game road skid and won their fourth straight game overall with a series opening 6-4 victory over the Greenville Drive. Asheville plated three runs in the top of the seventh to take a two-run lead and held off the league’s top offense down the stretch for the win.
Ryan Wrobleski put the Tourists in front early with a two-run double in the top of the first inning. Greenville rallied for a pair of runs in the second and another in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Asheville bounced back with a run in the top of the fourth when Wrobleski singled, stole second, and scored on a wild pitch.
Nic Swanson battled for four innings and kept the Tourists in the game. Franny Cobos entered in the fifth and allowed a run to the Drive; however, the right-hander recorded back-to-back strikeouts to limit the damage. Cobos followed that up with two more scoreless innings and the Asheville offense responded in the seventh.
Tommy Sacco Jr. led off with a single and promptly scored on a Michael Sandle double down the third base line. Kobe Kato followed with a double to deep centerfield that plated Sandle and Justin Williams capped the rally with an RBI single to right.
Ronny Garcia spun the final two innings for his first save of the season. Sandle recorded a crucial outfield assist at third base in the bottom of the ninth. Wrobleski and Sandle each finished 2-for-4. Cobos, who has allowed only two runs in his last 16.2 innings pitched, earned his first win of the season.
