Former Cleveland Indian Jerry Sands broke a 2-2 tie in the ninth inning by homering off the batter's eye in deep center field to help the Flying Squirrels avoid the four-game sweep. <o:p>
Winging It<o:p>
Southpaw Thomas Pannone worked five innings allowing two runs on six hits, striking out seven. Pannone had his arsenal of pitches working early Sunday, striking out five through two innings. Richmond scored their first run of the game in the fourth when Brandon Bednar hit a solo home run. It was the first home run given up by Pannone since May 30th, a span of 40.2 innings. Pannone surrendered one more run in the fifth, allowing a two-out double to Richmond's Slade Heathcott, followed by an RBI single by C.J. Hinojosa. Richmond starter Corey Taylor worked five innings allowing one run on three hits. In relief for the Ducks, Jacob Lee tossed one scoreless frame followed by 1.1 scoreless from Jordan Milbrath. Milbrath worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to hold the score at 2-2. Neil Holland entered to retire the final two batters of the eighth before working the ninth. In the ninth Holland gave up the go-ahead home run to Jerry Sands.<o:p>
Duck Tales<o:p>
Luigi Rodriguez hit his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Rodriguez then added a leadoff double in the sixth but the Ducks could not push across the tying run. In the eighth, Luigi struck again by delivering a game tying RBI single scoring Yu Chang. Chang started the rally by doubling off the right field wall. Rodriguez was 3-4 on the afternoon with a home run, double, single and two RBI.<o:p>
Notebook<o:p>
Francisco Mejía left last night's game with a right hip strain… He was not in the lineup Sunday and is considered day-to-day… Akron's win streak comes to an end at four games… Time of Game: 3:01… Attendance: 5,532. <o:p>
