ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists fell to the Hickory Crawdads 13-4 on Saturday night despite only being outhit by one. The Crawdads had 12 hits in the game while the Tourists posted 11.
Hickory built a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning before Zach Daniels gave the Tourists their first run of the game with a two-out RBI single in the third. The Crawdads plated two more in the fourth, added another in the fifth, and scored another in the sixth.
C.J. Stubbs and Cristian Gonzalez put together back-to-back hits in the sixth inning to net the Tourists their second run of the game. Even though the visitors continued to add to their lead, Asheville used a pair of late Home Runs by Colin Barber and Luis Santana to keep the crowd engaged.
Santana’s Home Run came in the bottom of the ninth inning shortly after he moved from second base to the pitcher’s mound. Luis pitched the top of the ninth inning and recorded a flyout to go along with a double-play ground ball to notch his third scoreless inning of the season.
Daniels, Gonzalez, Will Wagner, and Quincy Hamilton all recorded two hits in the game. The Tourists still hold a three games to two lead in the series and will attempt to win the series outright in the finale scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
