Santos named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs’ right-handed pitcher Victor Santos has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 30- June 5.

Santos made two appearances during the week posting a 1-0 record and holding opponents to one run over 12 innings of work with nine strikeouts. In his first outing of the week on May 31st in New Hampshire, he allowed one run on four hits over seven innings recording five strikeouts, and did not walk a batter. He closed out the week on June 5th picking up the win tossing five innings and holding the Fisher Cats to three hits while striking out four and walking three.

The 21-year-old has made 11 appearances (10 starts) for the Sea Dogs with a 5-4 record and a 3.94 ERA along with 42 strikeouts in 61.2 innings. His five wins and 61.2 innings pitched both led the team. He also ranks third on the team in ERA (3.94), average against (.234), and WHIP (1.07).

The Red Sox acquired Santos on July 17, 2021, from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for infielder CJ Chatham. The 6’1”, 190 pounder resides in Salcedo, Dominican Republic.

Santos is the second Sea Dogs’ pitcher to earn the honor this year joining Brayan Bello who took home the accolade for the week of May 2-8.

On Tuesday, the Sea Dogs start a six-game homestand against the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies). Promotional highlights this homestand include Triston Casas bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on June 7th, Country Night on June 8th, Pride Night on June 10th and the Maine Whoopie Pies return to Hadlock Field on June 10th.
