Saltillo, Coah. (Prensa Saraperos) 18 de marzo de 2024.- El béisbol en Saltillo es sinónimo de historia, tradición y pasión. Este 18 de marzo de 2025, la organización de los Saraperos de Saltillo, encabezada por el Ingeniero César H. Cantú García, conmemora su 55 aniversario, un acontecimiento que simboliza más de medio siglo de emociones, triunfos, sin sabores y momentos gloriosos en la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. Para los saltillenses, los Saraperos son mucho más que un equipo; representan identidad y orgullo, una novena que ha hecho vibrar y emocionar a generaciones enteras con cada juego disputado en la catedral del béisbol en el estado de Coahuila, el parque Francisco I. Madero.
Un debut inolvidable
El 18 de marzo de 1970, los Saraperos debutaron en la LMB en el Parque Cuauhtémoc de Monterrey con una victoria 6-3 ante los Sultanes. El primer mánager, Tomás Herrera, presentó el siguiente lineup:

5.- Francisco "Panchón" Herrera (1B)

Aquino fue el pitcher ganador. Después de barrer a los Sultanes, tres días más tarde, el 21 de marzo, la afición saltillense vivió la emoción del primer juego en casa en el Estadio Francisco I. Madero, donde los Saraperos vencieron 9-3 a los Broncos de Reynosa.
Una historia de éxitos
Desde su fundación, Saraperos tiene marca de 3,374 victorias y 2,963 derrotas. El sarape ha sido protagonista en 35 postemporadas, con 7 Series de Campeonato y 8 Series Finales. A lo largo de su historia, ha conseguido tres títulos de la LMB:
- 1980: Campeones tras liderar la temporada extraoirdinaria.
- 2009: Vencieron en la Serie Final a Tigres de Quintana Roo en 6 juegos.
- 2010: Repitieron la hazaña al superar a Pericos de Puebla en 5 juegos y obtener el bicampeonato aún vigente de la LMB.
Marcas destacadas
- Dos bicampeonatos de zona norte (2004-2005, 2009-2010).
- Mejor porcentaje de victorias para un equipo en una temporada de 120 juegos en 1979 (95 ganados, 40 perdidos, .704 PCT).
- Las 25 victorias en 1979 del lanzador derecho Miguel Solís.
- En 1979, todo el lineup de los Saraperos de Saltillo superó el .300 de porcentaje en un hecho asombroso. Juan Navarrete lideró con .355, seguido de Andrés Mora con .344, y Víctor Quintero con .333. Ismael Sañudo y “Pinolo” Rodríguez terminaron con .324, mientras que Harold King registró .320. Marcelo Juárez .304 y Guadalupe Chávez .302.
- Racha de más triunfos al inicio de una campaña (13 en 1979).
- 41 salvamentos en una temporada (Luis Ignacio Ayala, 1999).
- 36 juegos consecutivos bateando de hit (Luis Santos, 2000).
- 45 cuadrangulares de un bateador zurdo mexicano en una temporada (Eduardo Jiménez, 2000).
- 13 juegos consecutivos con al menos una carrera impulsada (Mario Valenzuela, 2005).
Saraperos también ha registrado 2 juegos perfectos, 7 juegos sin hit ni carrera y un juego sin hit ni carrera combinado, además de lograr el primer juego sin hit en una postemporada de la LMB con Mike Romano en 2001.
Leyendas del Sarape
Algunos de los nombres más destacados en la historia de los Saraperos incluyen a Guadalupe Chávez, quien ostenta el récord de más juegos disputados con 1,659, Miguel Solís, el pitcher con más victorias con 186. El líder en cuadrangulares es Eduardo Jiménez con 160 y Gregorio Luque, mánager con más victorias con 447.
