Schmid, Chiefs Shut Out Burlington

Peoria, IL - Thanks to seven strong innings from Colin Schmid, the Peoria Chiefs shutout the Burlington Bees 3-0 Monday night at Dozer Park to win the series. Schmid pitched seven shutout innings while scattering four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts earning the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected

Peoria, IL - Thanks to seven strong innings from Colin Schmid, the Peoria Chiefs shutout the Burlington Bees 3-0 Monday night at Dozer Park to win the series. Schmid pitched seven shutout innings while scattering four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts earning the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected Player of the Game.

  The Chiefs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first against Burlington starter Clayton Chatham. Brandon Riley and Delvin Perez walked but Perez was out at second as Brendan Donovan reached on a fielder's choice. With runners at the corners Brady Whalen hit a sac fly to score Riley and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Imeldo Diaz followed with a double to score Donovan for the 2-0 lead.
     Peoria added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Donovan led off with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Whalen. Diaz reached on a fielding error by Austin Krzeminski which allowed Donovan to score and put the Chiefs ahead 3-0.
     Schmid (4-5) earned the win pitching seven shutout innings allowing four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Leonardo Taveras pitched the final two innings allowing only two hits with one walk and striking out two en route to his first save with the Chiefs.
     The Chiefs start a four-game series with the Kane County Cougars on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m and it's Taco Tuesday, $2 Tacos at the concession stands. It's also Thanks For Your Service Tuesday where Veterans and All First Responders receive up to four (4) tickets at $3 each with a valid ID. Plus Humana Silver Sluggers get one (1) ticket to every Tuesday home game. The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:20 p.m. on the Peoria Chiefs Tune-In Page, which is free and also has a free app for smartphones and tablets. The game is also available on MiLB.TV for subscribers. 
     Wednesday, July 31 is a Guaranteed WINSday at Dozer Park with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. The Chiefs are guaranteeing their fans a win over the Kane County Cougars. If the Chiefs do not win, all fans can exchange their tickets for a free home game in August. There are also postgame fireworks and it is CityLink Bang For Your Buck Wednesday with dollar hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream. Thursday, August 1 is a 6:35 p.m. start for Pride Night. The Chiefs join the MiLB Pride Night Initiative in a night of inclusion with Peoria Proud as we welcome LGBTQ friends, family and allies to Dozer Park. There will also be concourse tables for Positive Health Solutions and FRIENDS. The first 1000 fans get a rainbow koozie presented by Positive Health Solutions, Peoria Proud, and the Peoria Chiefs. It's also a Baumgarten Distributing Beer and Brat Thirsty Thursday and Taco Bell Live Mas Thursday. The homestand concludes on Friday, August 2 with Harry Potter Night. Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and enjoy the sights and sounds from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The Chiefs will also wear Harry Potter themed jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit EP!C. There will also be memorabilia and collectibles from Harry Potter autographed by the stars that will be part of a raffle. The magical night will conclude with post game fireworks and a pitch-in for charity benefitting EP!C.
