PASCO, WA – Davis Schneider’s career night powered the Vancouver Canadians to an 8-2 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils (Angels) on Tuesday at Gesa Stadium in Pasco. The Voorhees, NJ native matched a C’s single-game high with four hits; he homered and doubled thrice while claiming responsibility for five of eight C’s runs.
Vancouver scored an unearned run in the first inning to take the lead for good before Schneider’s first hit – his fifth homer of the year – with one out in the second made it 2-0 Canadians.
After newcomer Tyler Keenan – who was acquired from Seattle over the weekend for former C’s left Ryan Borucki – plated Trevor Schwecke with an RBI single for his first knock in the Blue Jays organization to put the C’s in front 3-0 through three innings, Schneider doubled to start the fourth but would get stranded at third base. He then contributed an RBI two-bagger with two outs in the fifth that completed a three-run frame from the Vancouver offense (a rally started by Addison Barger’s solo homer earlier in the stanza, his league-best tenth jack of the year).
After making his only out of the day to end the seventh – the only inning the C’s failed to put at least one runner on – Schneider came up again in the ninth with the bases loaded, one out and the Canadians ahead 6-2. He cracked his third double of the game to left field to score a pair and hammer the final nail in the coffin for an 8-2 C’s triumph.
7 Blue Jays prospect Sem Robberse (W, 3-1) was able to work through six innings despite not having his best command. The 20-year-old walked a season-high four hitters but only allowed three hits en route to his team-best fourth quality start of the year. Abdiel Mendoza, Will McAffer and Jol Concepcion each contributed an inning of relief.
Schneider’s four hits, 10 total bases, one run scored and four RBI were the foundation for Vancouver’s success tonight, but six of nine starters had a hit and seven of them reached at least once. Schwecke matched a personal best this year with three hits and Mack Mueller added two knocks in the nine spot.
With the win, the C’s are now back to .500 with 17 games to go in the first half. They are 3.5 games out of first place.
The Canadians will go for their tenth win in their first 13 games against the Dust Devils this year tomorrow night. #22 Blue Jays prospect Chad Dallas returns to the mound on which he made his pro debut in April opposite #14 Angels prospect Landon Marceaux. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be heard live on CanadiansBaseball.com and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
