Scrappers Bats Silenced in Shutout

August 29, 2017

[Empty Body]

Batavia, NY- One night after sweeping a doubleheader, the Scrappers had their bats silenced at Dwyer Stadium. A first inning two run homerun was enough as the Batavia Muckdogs topped the Scrappers 2-0.
In the bottom of the first inning Brayan Hernandez singled. Thomas Jones followed with a two run homer to left on a 2-2 pitch for the only runs of the game.
Offensively the Scrappers had chances but couldn't get on the board. Mahoning Valley stranded seven runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning.
Kirk McCarty (2-2) started and took the loss in 3.0 innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on just two hits. McCarty struck out four. Jean Carlos Mejía followed and went 4.0 innings in relief. Mejia walked one and struck out five. Riley Echols would then go 1.0 inning and allowed one hit.
The Scrappers go for the series win on Wednesday night at Batavia. Eli Morgan will start with first pitch set for 7:05. The Scrappers return home on Thursday for another PNC Thursday Buck Night. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets or get them online at www.mvscrappers.com.
