Scrappers Steal a Win in State College

(State College, PA)-After tripling with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Tyler Freeman stole home for the eventual game winning run on Monday night. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers used Freeman's steal to steal a 9-7 win over the State College Spikes.The Scrappers would strike for seven runs

(State College, PA)-After tripling with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Tyler Freeman stole home for the eventual game winning run on Monday night. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers used Freeman's steal to steal a 9-7 win over the State College Spikes.
The Scrappers would strike for seven runs over the first two innings. Clark Scolamiero led the way with a two run single in the first and a two run single in the second as the Scrappers raced out to an early 7-2 lead.
State College would chip away at the Scrappers lead with two runs in the first inning and then pulled to within a run with a four run fourth inning. The big blow for the Spikes was a two out, three run double for Brady Whalen.
The Spikes would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two errors on one play by the Scrappers.
In the top of the sixth inning with two outs Freeman tripled. As the Spikes tried to appeal that he missed second, Freeman took off for the plate and scored without a throw to record his first professional steal of home. The run pushed the Scrappers out to an 8-7 lead.
Mahoning Valley added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Richie Palacios.
Juan Mota started and took a no decision in 3.1 innings. He allowed 6 runs, all earned, on 7 hits. Mota walked 1, struck out 3and hit 3. Dakody Clemmer (2-0) picked up the win in 2.2 innings of relief. Clemmer allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits. He struck out 4. Luis Santos earned a hold with 2.0 innings of work. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 while walking 1. Erik Algarin (3) picked up the save with a perfect ninth inning. Algarin struck out 1.      
The Scrappers (12-4) will go for their sixth straight series win on Tuesday night. Reigning New York Penn League Pitcher of the Week Luis Oviedo gets the start. First pitch is set for 7:05.
