The Scrappers entered the night with the top offense in the New York Penn League but were held in check by a trio of Yankee pitchers. The lone run the Scrappers scored came on a solo homerun off the bat of Richie Palacios. Palacios, a New York City native, was playing his first game in his home city as a professional.
Former Cleveland Indians minor leaguer Soto would put the Yankees on top with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. He would then put the game out of reach with a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Scrappers (16-8) and Yankees continue their series on Thursday night. Zach Draper gets the start for Mahoning Valley. First pitch is 7:00.
