Scrappers Top Doubledays for Series Win

Auburn, NY- Despite four Auburn Doubledays' errors, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers had to rally for a run in the top of the ninth inning to pick up their seventh straight win over Auburn, 5-4 on Friday night at Falcon Park.
Mahoning Valley started the game by getting the first two runners on base on back to back errors by the Doubledays. Following the two errors, a passed ball would allow Austen Wade to score for the early 1-0 lead.
The Scrappers would add on three runs thanks to two more Auburn errors in the top of the fifth inning. After
Auburn would waste little time rallying in the bottom of the fifth inning for three runs of their own. The Doubledays would get RBI doubles from Brandon Boggetto and Chance Sheaperd to pull Auburn to within one at 4-3.
The Doubledays would then use another RBI double to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kameron Esthay would double with two outs to drive in Boggetto who had reached on a fielder's choice.
In the top of the ninth inning the Scrappers would take the lead back. With two outs and Austen Wade at second, Nolan Jones drew an intentional walk to put runners at first and second.
Zach Plesac started for the Scrappers and took a no decision in four innings of work. He scattered two hits while walking one and striking out four. Eli Morgan followed and worked 2.1 innings in relief. Morgan allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits. He walked two and struck out four. Rile Echols (1-1) earned the win with 1.2 innings of work. Echols allowed just one hit. He did not allow a walk or record a strikeout.
The Scrappers will go for the series sweep on Saturday night.
