Sea Dogs score four in the eighth for 9-5 win

Portland, Maine- The Sea Dogs (62-69) rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (77-54) 9-5 in front of 7,222 fans on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.

With the game tied 5-5 in the eighth, the Sea Dogs had two on with nobody out to start the frame. Danny Mars hit an RBI double on a 3-1 pitch from Casey Delgado (L, 10-6) to score Cole Sturgeon and give the 'Dogs a 6-5 lead. Corey Burns entered the game and allowed a double to Chad De La Guerra to score two more for Portland. Two batters later, Jeremy Barfield hit an RBI single to right to score De La Guerra and pad the lead at 9-5. The Sea Dogs sent all nine to the plate in the eighth.
 
De La Guerra finished the game with two doubles and a career-high four RBI. Danny Mars had three hits, an RBI, and scored three runs. Josh Ockimey had three hits, including a pair of doubles and two RBI.
 
Matt Harvey (ND) started the game for Binghamton on a Major League Rehab Appearance. Harvey allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits in 4.2 innings while walking one and fanning two.
 
Portland struck first on a two-run double by De La Guerra off of Harvey in the third to score Dannys Bethea and Mars.
 
The Rumble Ponies tied it up in the fourth on a two-run homer by Tomás Nido off of Dedgar Jimenez.
 
Jimenez (ND) went 6.1 innings in a no-decision and allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
 
Portland took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Cole Sturgeon to score Ockimey, who had doubled off the Maine Monster.
 
In the bottom of the fifth with two outs and the bases loaded, Ockimey doubled to left again to score plate two runs and extend the Sea Dogs lead to 5-2.
 
David Thompson hit a solo homer off of Jimenez - almost to the exact same spot as Nido's in right field - to cut the Sea Dogs' lead to 5-3.
 
Binghamton tied the game 5-5 in the seventh on an RBI double by Peter Alonso and an RBI groundout from Matt Oberste off of Trevor Kelley (W, 1-1). The win was Kelley's first in Double-A.
 
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM. LHP Trey Ball (6-11, 5.59) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP Corey Oswalt (10-5, 2.41) of Binghamton. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI US Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 12:45 AM.
