PEORIA, IL (August 11, 2019) - A season high 19 hits by the Clinton LumberKings were more than enough to beat the Peoria Chiefs 10-6 on Sunday night at Dozer Park. Peyton Burdick and Evan Edwards each homered for Clinton (29-20, 62-56) in their 10th straight win versus the Chiefs (14-35, 44-74).  
Clinton lead throughout scoring all of their runs in bunches. In the top of the second they plated the game's first runs with a three-run rally against Peoria starter Logan Gragg. Thomas Jones, who ended his night with three RBIs, drove home the first two runs with a popup single to center and was followed by a Samuel Castro RBI single to right.
Gragg (0-2) was hung with the loss for his five innings of work. He allowed all three of his runs in the second on seven hits while walking none and striking out six.
The LumberKings continued to added on once Gragg departed. They struck for two runs in the sixth and added another two runs in the eighth to jump out to a 7-1 lead.
Alberto Guerrero (6-6) was awarded the win for Clinton. Over his seven innings of work he allowed one run on seven hits while walking none and striking out five.
Peoria pulled to within one in the bottom of the eighth when they scored five runs for the largest rally of the game. Four walks, three wild pitches, and just one hit made it 7-6 before Clinton pulled away for good with their last rally of the night in the ninth.
In the top of the ninth, Peyton Burdick homered to left to open the inning - his fifth of the year. Four batters later, Evan Edwards hit a two-run homer to center for his fifth of the year, a ball estimated to have traveled 417 feet.
Elkin Alcala got the final three outs as Clinton moved three games ahead of Wisconsin in the Wild Card and to four back of Kane County for the division lead.
The LumberKings will conclude their road trip and meet the Peoria Chiefs third game of a three-game series on Monday afternoon. Clinton will throw righty George Soriano (3-7, 4.15) while Peoria will tap righty Parker Kelly (3-2, 2.45). First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. (CDT).
