The Somerset Patriots defeated the Altoona Curve by a final score of 7-3 on Saturday at PNG Field in Altoona, PA.
The game took place following a season-long three-hour, 37-minute rain delay. It took place in seven innings, as it was initially scheduled to be the first game of a double header. Following the contest, game two of the double header was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up on Sunday, May 12 as part of a double header.
Altoona scored one run in each of the first three innings, before the Patriots spread seven unanswered runs over the final four innings.
After overcoming a 4-1 deficit on Thursday and a 3-0 deficit on Saturday, the have now Patriots overcome a season-high three-run deficit to win two games in a row, after failing to do so at all in the first 28 games of the season.
Somerset has now won five of its last seven games, its best seven-game stretch of the season. The win elevates the Patriots back to .500, with a record of 15-15, for the first time since April 13, when they were 4-4, following a sweep in their first double header of the season at New Hampshire.
LHP Brock Selvidge (7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 HR) earned his third straight winning decision by pitching all seven innings of the game.
With his third straight win, Selvidge tied the longest win streak of any pitcher in the Eastern League this season and the longest active streak in the league.
The performance marked the first complete game of Selvidge’s career and Somerset’s first by a pitcher since July 25, 2023 (Blane Abeyta, 6.0 IP).

It marked Selvidge’s fifth straight appearance having pitched 5.0+ innings, as he matched his season-high 7.0 IP (4/27 @REA) for the first time this season.
Selvidge allowed one run in each of the first three innings of the game, before holding the Curve scoreless for the game’s final four innings. Over his last four starts, Selvidge has pitched to a 1.50 ERA (4 ER in 24.0 IP) with 22 K and 9 BB.
SS Oswald Peraza (0-for-4, 3 K) played five innings at shortstop in his third overall game of MLB rehab (right shoulder strain) and his first with the Somerset Patriots.
CF Spencer Jones (2-for-3, 3 RBI) brought home the game-tying and go-ahead runs with a two-run single to cap Somerset’s four-run fourth inning.
Jones hit safely and brought runs home in each of his final two at-bats of the day. The performance marked Jones’ seventh multi-hit game of the season and he collected a season-high three runs batted in.
C Ben Rice (2-for-4, RBI, 2 R, HR, 2 K) led off the Patriots’ four-run fourth inning with eighth home run of the season.

Now with eight long balls, Rice holds sole possession of second place in the Eastern League in home runs. All eight of Rice’s home runs have been solo home runs.
The performance marked Rice’s ninth multi-hit game of the season, trailing only Benjamin Cowles for the team lead (10).
Rice ends the day with ranking among the Eastern League leaders with 22 R (3rd), 19 BB (3rd), 56. TB (T-3rd), 29 H (T-7th), a .509 SLG (8th) and .895 OPS (9th).
3B JC Escarra (3-for-4, 2 R, 2B) secured a team-high three hits for the second time this season. Escarra becomes the fifth Patriot to collect his second 3+ hit game this season.
