SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 22, 2022) – The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the San Antonio Missions 5-2 on Thursday night at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium to take the South Division Series, 2-0. With Frisco’s Thursday win, the RoughRiders are headed to the Texas League Championship Series for the first time since 2012.

Frisco starter Cody Bradford tossed six scoreless innings behind nine strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win. Relievers Owen White, Avery Weems and Nick Starr contributed the final three innings to complete the victory.

Right fielder Aaron Zavala knocked his second postseason home run on a two-run shot in the first, while catcher David Garcia homered in his first plate appearance of the postseason in the top of the third.

The RoughRiders broke the scoreboard in the top of the first on Zavala’s home run, his second of the postseason and second in as many games to give Frisco a 2-0 lead.

Frisco stretched their early advantage with Garcia’s leadoff home run in the third to make it a 3-0 game. With the bases loaded, Trevor Hauver walked to give the Riders a 4-0 lead.

The final Riders run scored in the top of the eighth on a Hauver single and an error from Missions right fielder Ethan Skender, allowing Kellen Strahm to score from second and give the Riders a 5-0 lead.

San Antonio cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth with one out on a two-run home run from Yorman Rodriguez. The Missions’ ninth-inning runs were the team’s first since the top of the fourth in game one on Tuesday.
