Shaw launches 21st home run in tight ballgame

Panik continues rehab assignment, goes 1-for-3 and plays seven innings at second base

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - Outfielder Chris Shaw's bullet down the right-field line got the Sacramento River Cats (43-62) going in the fourth inning but the team was unable to come from behind, falling 4-2 to the Iowa Cubs (38-66) for their sixth consecutive loss.
Shaw would find himself on base twice more - once by way of a walk and again after being hit by a pitch - but infielders Ryder Jones and Jerry Sands combined to go 0-for-8 on the night hitting directly behind Shaw.
Giants second baseman Joe Panik pushed his rehab to seven innings on Friday night, picking up a single in three at bats and playing a clean second base.
Starting pitcher Tyler Herb tied his longest outing of the season by tossing six solid innings, striking out four, and allowing three runs. The right-hander also tied a season-best by only walking one batter.
Saturday night's televised ballgame will feature local product Jordan Johnson (0-3, 9.00) squaring off with Cubs right-hander Luke Farrell (0-2, 4.39). First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes

  • Center fielder Peter Bourjos continues to rack up hits since joining the River Cats. Two more on Friday night raised his batting average to .360 in 54 plate appearances.


  • The River Cats lead the Pacific Coast League with 98 errors this season, but played a clean game in the field on Friday. With the loss, however, they dropped to 23-24 when they commit zero errors in a game.
