Shaw lifts River Cats over Storm Chasers

Omaha, NE - Chris Shaw helped get the Sacramento River Cats (48-64) back to their winning ways Saturday night as his go-ahead home run in the eighth inning put them up for good against the Omaha Storm Chasers (52-59) in the 5-4 victory.

Sacramento and Omaha went back and forth tonight before Shaw's decisive late-inning blast. After the River Cats took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, the Storm Chasers answered back, scoring three runs themselves off starter Roberto Gomez. Jae-Gyun Hwang helped the River Cats retake the lead an inning later by hitting a solo home run, but Omaha was once again up to the challenge, tying things up 4-4 in the sixth inning.
Omaha would not go quietly, putting two runners on the ninth before right-hander Tyler Rogers induced a game-ending double play to earn his sixth save on the year.
The River Cats will finish up their four-game set against Omaha tomorrow afternoon as they send right-hander Jose Flores (1-1, 3.86) to the hill. Left-hander Onelki Garcia (4-2, 4.50) will get the call for the Storm Chasers. Shawesome: Designated hitter Chris Shaw hit his 12^th home run tonight and second in the eighth inning or later…is now riding a nine-game hitting streak with a .324 batting average over that span (11-for-34).
Hwang: Third baseman Jae-Gyun Hwang hit his eighth home run of the year and first with Sacramento since June 26…now leads the team with 46 RBI…six of his eight long balls have come on the road.
Gomez: Right-hander Roberto Gomez struck out a season-high seven hitters tonight…also threw a season-high 100 pitches (62 strikes)…allowed three runs on four hits over his five innings…has allowed three earned runs over his last 14 innings pitched.
Heathcott: Centerfielder Slade Heathcott collected three of the team's nine hits tonight…also registered his second RBI…hitting .556 in three games with Sacramento (5-for-9).
Swiped Bags: The River Cats stole three bases tonight and now sit third in the PCL with 86 on the season…have been caught 22 times, second fewest in the league…Sacramento pitchers allowed four stolen bases tonight…Sacramento is 13th in the league with a .244 caught stealing percentage (29 caught in 119 attempts).
