After stringing together a few hits in the second inning, Mac Williamson scored on a groundout to give the River Cats an early 1-0 lead. Then, trailing 2-1 in the ninth inning, Chase d'Arnaud stayed hot with a game-tying RBI double to send the game into extra innings. With Eury Pérez on second base with two outs in the tenth inning, Shaw ended the game with one swing of the bat, crushing his team-high 16th long ball of 2018.
Giants' right-hander Jeff Samardzija looked sharp in his fourth and longest rehab start for Sacramento. Samardzija allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings with three strikeouts, throwing 90 pitches (54 strikes).
In the series finale tomorrow, the River Cats try to keep things rolling behind left-hander Matt Gage (4-6, 5.54). They'll face off against right-hander Cy Sneed (7-4, 3.33) for the Grizzlies.
