SAN JOSE, CA - In his fourth rehab start since coming back from Tommy John surgery, Shelby Miller set the tone early against San Jose. He struck out a pair in the first inning and caught Joneshwy Fargas stealing to end the second.

After that he allowed only one baserunner in his final 4.2 innings of work while striking out an additional eight Giants hitters, including punching out the side in the fifth. Miller (W, 1-0) put an exclamation mark on his outing by striking out Gio Brusa swinging for his tenth strikeout on his 81st pitch.
Tonight was Miller's longest rehab appearance of the year and marked the first time that he pitched into the seventh since dishing 7.2 innings in San Diego in April of 2017. He became the fourth Rawhide pitcher to strike out ten hitters this year.
The Rawhide hitters came alive in the fifth after being stymied by Mac Marshall through the first three innings. Marshall allowed just one hit and struck out four before giving way to D.J. Meyers, who pitched a quiet fourth.
Adam Walton and Luis Silverio led off the fifth with singles and later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Stephen Smith and a groundout by Marcus Wilson respectively, giving the Rawhide a 1-0 lead. Camden Duzenack singled off of Meyers (L, 3-2), which chased him from the game with two runners on.
Jeff Burke came on to face Dominic Miroglio, who doubled into the right-center field gap to score Smith and Duzenack and put Visalia (37-32) up 4-0.
The Rawhide scored four more in the seventh on RBI singles by Miroglio, Walton, and Silverio and a sacrifice fly by Ramon Hernandez.
Tyler Mark retired John Riley to end the seventh and Keven McCanna struck out three of the six hitters he faced to end the game, sealing an 8-0 win for the Rawhide.
The Rawhide shut out an opponent in back-to-back games for the first time since April 19 and 20, 2015, when Visalia shut down Stockton and Modesto respectively on the road. San Jose (33-36) was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since 2015.
With 12 hits tonight, Visalia has put up at least ten hits in each of their last five games, a span where they have won four contests. Duzenack led the Rawhide offense with three hits while Miroglio, Smith, Walton, and Silverio added two knocks each. Miroglio also drove home three runs.
The Rawhide will play the finale of the first half tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM. RHP Riley Smith (3-3, 3.82) will take the ball for the Rawhide against Giants RHP Raffi Vizcaino (3-4, 4.88). The live radio broadcast will be available on rawhidebaseball.com.
