Salisbury, MD - Jackson Tetreault struck out eight Delmarva Shorebirds in the Hagerstown Suns 11-3 loss on Tuesday night in the series finale at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Suns fall to 1-4 in the second half and 28-45 overall and will begin a three-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday evening with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
The Suns put the first runs of the game on the board in the third inning against Delmarva starter Jhon Peluffo. Armond Upshaw was hit by a pitch and stole second with one out. Cole Freeman doubled to left, scoring Upshaw to give the Suns a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Meregildo doubled to center, driving in Freeman and Jake Scudder plated Omar Meregildo with a double to center to give Hagerstown a 3-0 advantage.
Delmarva took the lead in the bottom of the frame against Tetreault, who started for the Suns. Chris Shaw took Tetreault deep to left, quickly cutting the Hagerstown lead to two runs. Kirvin Mosequit and Mason McCoy reached on back-to-back errors with one out and Zach Jarrett drove both runners home with a triple to right, tying the game. Trevor Craport lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Jarrett and giving Delmarva a 4-3 lead.
In the fifth, Delmarva extended their lead against Tetreault and the Suns. McCoy led off with a triple to left, and with one out Craport singled to left, driving McCoy to the plate and taking a 5-3 lead. Branden Becker singled to move Craport to second, but Tetreault retired the next two hitters to work out of the inning.
The Shorebirds held Hagerstown scoreless the rest of the game, picking up six runs in the eighth while going on to win 11-3. The loss was Hagerstown's 45th of the season and fourth of the second half.
Tetreault (1-7) went five innings while allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Carlos Pena worked one inning while allowing a walk. Phil Morse threw two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Notes: Tetreault's eight strikeouts ties a career-high… The last time he struck out eight was April 12 against Greensboro… He's thrown at least five innings in each of his last six starts… He's also struck out at least five over that stretch… Meregildo had his second multi-hit game of the season… He joined the Suns on June 8… Meregildo, Nick Choruby, Upshaw, and Luis Garcia all have three-game hit streaks… Meregildo has an RBI in each of his last five games… Scudder has an RBI in each of his last three games… Upshaw stole two bases in Tuesday's game… It's the fifth time this season a Suns player has done so… It's Upshaw's third… The Suns being a three-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM first pitch… Hagerstown will send RHP Andrew Lee (2-2, 4.50 ERA) against Lakewood LHP Will Stewart (6-0, 1.13 ERA)… The broadcast can be heard, starting with the pregame show at 6:50 PM on www.hagerstownsuns.com by going to multimedia and "Listen Live"...
