Drew Rom was born on December 15, 1999 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky where he attended Highlands High School. A standout on the mound, Rom had an illustrious high school career as a highly touted prospect entering the 2018 prospect circuit as the #1 ranked baseball prospect in KY and #10 overall left-handed pitcher in the country. The accolades did not stop there as Rom was named named as a 2018 Mr. Baseball Honoree, ranked 9th for the Region Tourney MVP, and led Highlands to the state championship game.
After four impressive high school seasons, Rom entered the 2018 draft and was selected with the 115th pick in the 2018 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. The fourth round draft pick would quickly find himself in game action after being drafted starting his career with the Orioles in Sarasota with the GCL Orioles. After his rookie season was cut short due to injury, Rom headed to Delmarva for his first taste of full season baseball in 2019.
During the 2019 season, Rom found his stride dominating for the Shorebirds on a staff that was loaded with top-level arms forming a very formidable pitching staff. For Delmarva, Rom started in 15 games going 6-3, and posting a dominant 2.93 ERA earning himself a 2019 All-Star nod.
Assigned to two different teams in 2021, Rom continued his dominant pitching as he moved up the ranks of the O's farm system during the 2021 season. Bouncing between the Aberdeen Ironbirds and the Bowie Baysox, Rom was again unhittable recording a staggering 11-1 record with a 3.18 ERA striking out 120 batters to just 26 free passes.
As Rom heads into the 2022 season, Shorebirds fans can expect big things from the Baltimore Orioles 25th ranked prospect as he continues his journey to Baltimore that got started right here on Delmarva.
