The Biloxi Shuckers (47-34) earned a pair of wins over the Mobile BayBears (43-36) in front of the fifth largest crowd in MGM Park history on Tuesday night. With 5,779 Shuckers fans in attendance, the two sides wrapped up Sunday night's suspended game, a 3-2 Biloxi win, followed by a 2-0 shutout in seven innings.
Picking things up in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, RHP Zack Brown (W, 7-0) was tasked with following RHP Marcos Diplan's five-inning, eight strikeout performance on Sunday. Brown tossed four scoreless innings of one-hit baseball to earn the win.
Corey Ray tied the game at two on Sunday with a home run just before the tarp blanketed the field. The deciding run on Tuesday night was a sacrifice fly by Blake Allemand in the bottom of the eighth inning. LHP Adrian Almeida (L, 2-3) took the loss after RHP Ralston Cash dealt the first inning-and-a-third for Mobile.
In Game Two, LHP Wade Miley made his third rehab start for the Shuckers and came within two outs of earning the win. Still on a pitch count, Miley worked through 4.1 frames of scoreless baseball, allowing four hits while fanning four.
Biloxi plated their runs in the third and fourth. Troy Stokes Jr. brought in Trent Grisham with a two-out double to put the Shuckers on the board. In the fourth, Allemand belted his third long ball of the year to right field, a solo shot to provide the eventual 2-0 final.
After Miley departed in the fifth, RHP Jon Olczak (W, 5-2) was tasked with stranding a pair of baserunners with one out. Jose Rojas was promptly caught stealing third base, and Brandon Sandoval popped out softly to Jake Gatewood in foul territory at first base to end the threat. Olczak has now stranded 19 inherited baserunners on the year without allowing a single one to score.
Olczak needed to be picked up in the sixth inning by Biloxi's closer. RHP Nate Griep (S, 23) inherited the bases loaded with two outs. The All-Star halted the threat by striking out Roberto Baldoquin. In the ninth, after a two-out base hit to put the tying run at the plate, Griep struck out Zach Gibbons to seal the victory.
The Shuckers head to Pearl for a four-game series with the Mississippi Braves beginning Wednesday night at 7:00 PM CT. RHP Trey Supak (0-4, 4.55) gets the ball on the Fourth of July for the Shuckers and will oppose LHP Ricardo Sánchez (0-2, 10.80).
