Four Biloxi Shuckers’ (16-34) pitchers combined to one-hit the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (30-21) in a 3-0 win on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The victory snaps a nine-game losing streak for the Shuckers, bringing a close to the longest losing streak in franchise history.

Biloxi had two great opportunities to score against LHP Jake Eder in the first two frames. Cam Devanney and Brice Turang started the game with back-to-back walks, but Eder got two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice to strand the pair of base runners.

In the second, David Fry walked, Lucas Erceg singled and Gabriel Garcia was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Ryan Aguilar hit a smash towards first, but J.D. Osborne scooped the bouncer up next to first, touched the base and threw home where Fry was tagged out for a double play. Devanney then popped out in foul territory, again stranding two runners for the Shuckers.

LHP Andy Otero (W, 2-0) spun a gem for the Shuckers, twirling a season-high five innings and allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out seven. The Blue Wahoos put just one man in scoring position over Otero’s five scoreless frames, but the lefty responded by striking out the side to end his outing in the fifth.

The Shuckers broke the deadlock in the top of the sixth inning. Turang singled on a bouncing ball up the middle and stole second against RHP Alexander Guillen (L, 0-1). Guillen retired the next two batters, and Chad Spanberger hit a line drive to center field that fell in front of Victor Victor Mesa, scoring Turang from second to give Biloxi a 1-0 edge.

RHP Peter Strzelecki (H, 3) tossed a perfect sixth and LHP Leo Crawford (H, 1) allowed just one walk over two scoreless innings to preserve the Shuckers advantage heading to the ninth inning.

In the top of the ninth, Fry singled with one out and Erceg followed with a two-run homer to right, his third of the season, giving the Shuckers some breathing room at 3-0. Biloxi would manage two more hits and a walk in the frame, but Aguilar was thrown out at home attempting to score on a single by Turang, ending an opportunity for additional runs.

RHP Braden Webb (S, 2) came on in the ninth and walked the leadoff batter but induced a ground ball double play to cancel out the runner. Webb then walked the next two batters before Nick Fortes flied out to right, ending the ball game.

Seeking a second consecutive victory, the Shucker continue their six-game series against the Blue Wahoos on Friday night. RHP Bubba Derby takes the bump for the Shuckers opposite Pensacola RHP Jeff Lindgren for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9.
