The Biloxi Shuckers (32-54) were held to two hits in a 6-0 defeat against the Mississippi Braves (50-36) on Wednesday night.

Biloxi’s best chance to score came in the first inning. As he did on Tuesday night, David Hamilton reached with a hit on the very first pitch of the game, this time a bunt single, before stealing second base. RHP Alan Rangel (W, 1-1) struck out the next batter and got line outs from David Fry and Alexander Palma to strand Hamilton in scoring position.

After retiring the side in order in the bottom of the first inning, RHP Justin Bullock (L, 2-1) was knocked out of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Bullock allowed a walk, a single, three doubles and a two-run homer while recording just one out to the first six batters he faced as Mississippi drove in five runs to go ahead 5-0.

RHP J.T. Hintzen entered in relief of Bullock and allowed one run over 3.1 innings of work. RHP Bubba Derby tossed the next two innings, striking out four over two perfect innings, and RHP Zach Vennaro allowed just a hit in a scoreless inning of relief.

Biloxi’s only other hit of the ballgame came on a single by Palma in the top of the fourth inning. The Shuckers did put a man on base in the top of the sixth and seventh via the walk but were unable to drive either runner home. All told, the M-Braves pitching staff combined to strikeout the Shuckers 17 times, the most strikeouts in a game this season for Biloxi.

The Shuckers continue their series against the Mississippi Braves on Thursday night. RHP Noah Zavoals (4-6, 4.94) takes the mound for the Shuckers against M-Braves’ RHP Spencer Strider (2-5, 5.90) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9.
