Behind a second consecutive quality outing from one of their starters, the Biloxi Shuckers (64-67, 30-34 2nd Half) picked up an 8-2 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (67-60, 33-31 2nd Half) on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Biloxi started the scoring with a crooked number in the second inning. Zavier Warren worked a lead-off walk, stole second and advanced to third on a single to center by Ethan Murray. Gabe Holt then hit a bouncing ball up the first-base line that Marcus Chiu fielded cleanly but threw wide of a covering RHP Andrew McInvale (L, 2-3) at first, allowing both runs to score and give the Shuckers a 2-0 lead. Nick Kahle then worked a walk and both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch before Corey Ray singled to right, driving in Holt to make it 3-0. Ray was then caught attempting to steal second but stayed in the rundown long enough to let Kahle race home and score to put the Shuckers up 4-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, Murray earned a one-out walk to put a man on for Kahle, who blasted a two-run homer to left, his third of the year, widening Biloxi’s lead to 6-0.

RHP T.J. Shook (W, 4-2) scattered six hits over six innings of work. He pitched three scoreless innings before allowing a solo home run to J.D. Osbourne in the fourth. The only other run allowed came on two singles and a throwing error in the fifth, but the righty finished his evening by retiring the final six hitters he faced, including a strikeout of Chiu to polish off a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
Murray tacked on another run in the top of the sixth when he launched a solo homer to left, his first at Double-A and sixth of the season. Biloxi’s offense added the final run in the ninth when Wes Clarke doubled to left with two outs and Warren singled to right, the fourth time Warren reached in the contest.

Out of the bullpen, RHP Arnaldo Hernandez struck out two and gave up just one hit in a scoreless seventh inning. RHP James Meeker spun a perfect eighth in his Double-A debut, and RHP Robbie Hitt walked the first batter in the ninth before getting a double play and a groundout to face the minimum.
The Shuckers continue their final series of the season on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Biloxi is set to send LHP Brandon Knarr (3-6, 3.90) to the mound against Wahoos’ LHP Patrick Monteverde (1-0, 6.12) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
