Trae Arbet drove in five runs and Clark Eagan and Stephen Alemais homered as the West Virginia Power took a 12-6 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night in Charleston.
Arbet hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning and Alemais hit a solo homer in the third to give West Virginia a 3-0 lead.
The Legends came back to take the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Chris DeVito led off with a single, and Emmanuel Rivera followed with his first home run of the year. After Meibrys Viloria doubled and Nick Dini walked, Amalani Fukofuka sacrificed the runners to second and third. Ricky Aracena's sacrifice fly scored Viloria, and Dini came home after a steal of third and a wild pitch.
West Virginia responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Harvey led off with a single, and following a sacrifice, singles by Alemais and Ty Moore produced the tying run. Carlos Munoz walked to load the bases, and Hunter Owen singled, scoring Alemais. Arbet then cleared the bases with a triple, and he later scored on a single by Eagan, giving the Power a 9-4 lead.
The Power added a run in the sixth, and Eagan hit a solo homer in the seventh. Eagan's sacrifice fly in the eighth closed out the scoring for West Virginia.
The Legends scored two runs in the ninth inning. With two outs, consecutive singles by Aracena and Marten Gasparini put runners at first and third. Aracena came home on a single by Gabriel Cancel, and Gasparini also scored on an error by Alemais, the shortstop.
West Virginia reliever Blake Cederlind (2-0), who entered the game in the fifth after starter Oddy Nunez had pitched four perfect innings, got the win.
Legends starter Travis Eckert (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Game two of the four-game series will be played Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.
