Six Sea Dogs headed to the Arizona Fall League

Portland, Maine- Major League Baseball has announced the roster for the 2023 Arizona Fall League. Five Sea Dogs players from the Sea Dogs 2023 roster along with former Sea Dog Bryan Mata (2019 and 2022) have been selected to participate in the prestigious league.
Heading to Arizona from the Sea Dogs 2023 roster will be pitchers Wyatt Olds and Christopher Troye along with positions players Nathan Hickey, Brainer Bonaci, and Corey Rosier. The Red Sox prospects will be joined by prospects from the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, and Minnesota Twins to compile the Glendale Desert Dogs roster, which will be managed by former Sea Dogs and current Greenville Drive manager Iggy Suarez.
Catcher Nathan Hickey split time between High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland in 2023. In 80 games with the Sea Dogs, the Red Sox #15 prospect, hit .258 with 15 home runs, nd 56 RBI. Hickey was selected by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
Infielder Brainer Bonaci is ranked by MLB.com as the #11 prospect in the Red Sox organization. Bonaci earned a promotion to Double-A Portland from High-A Greenville in August. In 16 games with Portland, he hit .279 with two home runs and 7 RBI. He was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 9, 2018.
Outfielder Corey Rosier spent the entire 2023 season with the Sea Dogs and led the team in average (.285), triples (6), slugging percentage (.439), and ops (.788). He also led the team and the Eastern League with 49 stolen bases. Rosier was acquired by the Red Sox from the San Diego Padres along with Eric Hosmer in exchange for Jay Groome and Max Ferguson on August 2, 2022.
Right-handed pitcher Wyatt Olds made 23 appearances for the Sea Dogs in 2023, where he recorded 54 strikeouts over 45.2 innings. He was selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
Right-handed pitcher Christopher Troye joined the Sea Dogs in May from High-A Greenville. In 24 games with the Sea Dogs, he produced a 0-0 record with a 3.77 ERA. He recorded 50 strikeouts over 31.0 innings. Troye was selected by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
Bryan Mata spent part of the 2019 and 2022 seasons with the Sea Dogs. In 2023, the right-handed pitcher appeared in 9 games for Triple-A Worcester. He was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on January 27, 2016.
Also participating in the Arizona Fall League is Red Sox prospect Felix Cepeda. Cepeda split time between Single-A Salem and High-A Greenville in 2023. The 23-year-old combined 3-4 record with a 2.38 ERA in 33 games. He was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 11, 2017.
The Arizona Fall League gets underway on October 2nd and is comprised of six teams with each Major League organization sending at least seven prospects to fill the rosters. The Arizona Fall Stars Game will be played on November 5th. While the AFL Championship Game is set for November 11th.
The Sea Dogs open the 2024 season on Friday, April 5th. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, November 4th.
