Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino bounced back after a series opening 12-1 loss on Friday by drubbing the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 11-6 on Saturday at LoanMart Field. The Sixers got homers from Jordan Serena, Kyle Survance Jr and Jared Walsh to even the series and stay mathematically alive in California League's Southern Division second half standing.
The Sixers fell behind 1-0 heading to the third and were able to tie the game versus starter Jordan Sheffield (0-2) on an unearned run. The 66ers were able to chase the righty in the fourth scoring five times as Jordan Zimmerman and Walsh broke the tie with back-to-back doubles. Then with two men on Jordan Serena drilled a three-run homer, his second dinger of the year, for a 5-2 advantage. The 66ers pushed it to 6-2 when Derek Jenkins singled, stole second and came home on Brandon Diaz's single. The Sixers (61-71, 31-31) added two runs in the sixth highlighted by Zimmerman's RBI double and two more in the seventh on Survance's third homer of the season giving Inland Empire a 10-4 lead. The Quakes (73-59, 37-25) made it 10-6 in the bottom of the frame but that was as close as they would get. Walsh drilled a solo shot in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring, it was his eighth of the year. Joe Gatto evened his record at 2-2 allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk with seven Ks in 5.2 innings. Samil De Los Santos tossed to scoreless frames to put the game on ice. Luke Raley had a three-hit night for the Quakes and has seven hits in the two games of the series. Jordan Zimmerman had three hits for the 66ers.
